About...

debontheweb.jpg

For ten years, readers of the Southport Visiter and Formby Times followed the ups and downs of family life in the Atkinson household in Deb’s Diary. Now Debbie has reached a new stage in her life – her three children have flown the nest and her husband has retired. In Deb on the Web she will be talking about some of the interesting places, both near and far, that she has found on her “retirement travels” and she’d love you to leave feedback (good or bad) on places you’ve visited.

WHERE DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR A MEAL?

Posted by Debbie Atkinson on January 18, 2008 8:08 PM |

When we go out locally for a meal it's usually to the Forge in the middle of Southport (cheap steaks Tuesday; cheap fish dishes Thursday) or to the Eagle and Child out at Lathom. Although we're very happy with these two places, we'd like a change. Where do you go and why? Just click the comment button below (you don't need to fill in your email address or URL - just your name or alias and your suggestion). However there's a nice box of Swiss choccies for one of you and I'll need an email address to contact you, so if you don't leave one you can't win - I can't say fairer than that.

We like the Bold Hotel. There's a blackboard full of dishes - many of them quite unusual as well as very tasty toasted sandwiches. It's a good place to go for lunch if you're having a day at the shops.

I'd recommend the Auberge Brasserie, which is just around the corner from The Bold Hotel. Great food and always great service.

Perhaps have lunch at The Bold, wander around Lord Street then have dinner at the Auberge. What could be better?

I'd also recommend the French cafe (great galettes) in the Wayfarers Arcade

Thanks for that Henry - I like those two places myself - but what's a galette?

Hi Deb - love your column (not that i'm trying to win the prize!) We really love the Dolce Vita in Ainsdale. The staff are wonderful and the food is always delicious - have you tried it?

We always go to The North Garden in Chinatown, Liverpool. It's a small and modest family owned chinese restuarant that serves the most gorgeous salt and pepper squid. Tai Pan is good too. The Ko Sing in Crosby was the best before mum and dad retired and sold the business but of course I'd say that, I'm biased! But there is a secret place in Ainsdale that makes the best roast dinners I have ever had, speaking of which, see you tomorrow!

We like the Jade Gardens in Ainsdale for the early evening banquet - very good value and the food is always reliable. They do takeaways too.

2 places come to mind one near and one further afield.

Tapas tapas on south road in Waterloo is a must but try mid week because it gets very busy on weekends.
In Barley on the way to Clitheroe is a wonderful pub I can't remember what it is called but there is only one pub and it is wonderful, very relaxing and does the most wonderful steaks.
Happy eating
